April 20 -21 Updates

I hope you had a great weekend and were able to do something fun. This week we will be looking at the Electoral College in my US Government classes. If you are in my AP US Government class we will be going over material for Unit 2 which will be on this years AP Government Exam.

Today’s topic will be focusing on the follwoing:

AP US Government class– Review material for Unit 2 and talk about test strategies for the upcoming AP US Government exam.

US Government classes – We will be looking at the Electoral College this week. How does the United States choose its president? Does you vote really determine who the president will be? Should the presidency be based on the popular vote or electoral college? Should we change they way we choose our president? What are the advantages, disadvantages of changing the system? Who would have more to gain by changing the system or keeping the status quo.

US Government classes – We will looking a the media and how they cover politics. Is there a bias in the news, if so what does it look like. Is there really such a thing as fake news? What is the role of the press? How is it protected? What are the limits of the press?

Good morning,

I hope your first two days back went well. Thank you to all of you who emailed me back the past two days. As I stated in my email on Monday I am going to use my class website to communicate and hold our virtual classes. So each day of class there will be a class link that you can click on to enter the class discussion. There I will be able to explain some new concepts, ask questions and will allow you to participate with feed back and ask questions you might have about the topic we are discussing.

On Monday and Tuesday classes of each week new material will be posted that you can watch, read or take the self assesments to see how you  are doing. Wednesday and Thursday classes we will have online disucssion to talk about what you learned. These live discussion will also give you a chance to ask questions or get clearification on something you are not clear on. (more…)

Good morning! Today is the first day of a school experience that you can say with certainty that you parents, grandparents or anyone else you can think of has ever experienced.

By now you should have received an email from Mr. Payne about the plans for the high school as we move forward. If you have not received an email I am going to include a link below to the email Mr. Payne sent last week.

Good Morning,

I hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy. With everything going on with COVID-19, and so many things changing daily, there are many questions of how do we move forward with school, work and life in general. The high school is working on how best to continue forward with distance learning and other opportunities.

I ask that all of us listen for official announcements from Dr. Steinhaus, Mr. Carter, Governor Lujan-Grisham or officials from NMPED. I am sure there will be many things on social media being passed around that may or may not be accurate. So please be mindful not to pass along information that does not come from the district, site or state officials. (more…)
